I read a couple of articles and almost followed the advice of the first one with this clan war. After just reading (a skim) of the second article, I'm going to try it.

In sum, I'm going to start the search, let it run for 5 minutes and then start it over. Something wonky is going on with the algorithm, and when it goes beyond 5 minutes, lopsided matches are a greater likelihood.
In case you notice this odd behavior in the next match, there's the reason.
